And the most expensive city in the world is…

MOSCOW???? According to a recent survey of living costs for cities around the world, Tokyo is no longer the most expensive city in the world. That honor belongs to Moscow. Tokyo is actually in third place. Seoul is number two.

But I personally don’t put too much stock in these kinds of reports. For one thing, they assume that expatriates living abroad will live the same lifestyle (a car, a big house, etc.). While a few “lucky” executives might live that way, most people might have to accept a different lifestyle than they had back home. But I think that is part of the fun!

I live in Tokyo. Some things are more expensive. Other things are cheaper than what i paid in the U.S. At the end of the day, there is more to judging quality of life, than just comparing the cost of a hamburger. Living abroad has been a very rich and challenging opportunity for me. Though it isn’t always as fun or glamorous as it might seem to someone who has never changed ZIP codes, it can be a great adventure. Regardless of how “expensive” a city might be, finding new opportunities to learn, grow, and experience new ideas is priceless.

And best of all, you don’t even have to leave your neighborhood.
