Footloose, and Fancy Free…Almost.

November 25, 2007 By: Andrew Category: Announcements, General No Comments →

Well, my leg continues to improve, but it really has been a long battle. In the last week, I have managed to walk more and more without discomfort, but my leg still gets sore sometimes. So I have to carry my crutches, just in case. But the good news is that I am using them a lot less. I would say my leg is about 80-90% back to normal.

I should be back to normal soon. Then I will be able to do more in the way of taking pictures and actually doing things that are interesting enough to write about. Right now, the only thing more boring than my not writing would be if I described my daily life…(work, limp home, sleep, repeat…) :)

Still a Gimp

Since August, I have been using crutches. It all started with a case of achilles tendinitis, which made walking really hard. But Tokyo is not the kind of city where you can just “not walk,” so I had to get some crutches to help me get around. I have already written about how I hurt my back and how that led to a series of complications…

It turns out that I have bursitis in my ankle, which caused the tendon pain. My plantar arches in my feet are falling. So I got orthotic insoles to wear in my shoes. It takes time, but they seem to be helping…FINALLY! I have much less pain.

As my leg gets better, I am looking forward to increasing my activity level and also going on more photo shoots around Tokyo. I have also been DYING to get OUT OF TOKYO for months! (When you live in Tokyo, it can get to be a bit overwhelming…so sometimes, you need to at least take a day trip to the mountains or somewhere quiet, to get in touch with nature. I haven’t been able to do that…)

As I may have mentioned before, the last few months have really rekindled my interested in health and fitness, which I had been neglecting for quite some time. Sometimes, good things come out of “bad luck.”

Taking pictures and travelling, or even blogging for that matter, have had to take a back seat to taking care of my health. But I am looking forward to sharing more news and pics soon.

My Strange Journey

November 05, 2007 By: Andrew Category: General No Comments →

It’s been hard to post again, because at first I was overwhelmed with what I wanted to say…then I was overwhelmed with work. After a while, it becomes harder and harder to write, because you want to make up for the lost time with a brilliant post. You think you can post something good later, when you are not so busy or tired. But I really miss posting, so I am not going to wait for a flash of brilliance (since I have so few!)

Wow.

I wrote before that I had hurt my right leg, and then my back. As time went on things got worse. I strained a muscle in my left leg (the good one!). Then I had a strange bump in my leg, which they weren’t sure what it was at first. So I had to get a bunch of tests done. It turns out that I got an infection in my leg. I was basically stuck in bed for three weeks, although I did try to go to work once or twice, and I went to the hospital many times.

So I was stuck in bed, lying on my back because I couldn’t sleep on my side, and walking was a real chore. And then, my computer, iPod, and fan broke all on the same day!

That is when things got really interesting…
