You wouldn’t know it by listening to everyone around here whine about how cold it is, but we have had a relatively mild winter so far. We have had a few cold days, and it does get cold at night, but it is nothing like what my friends and family back home have been going through!
Yesterday (Wednesday, January 23, 2008), we finally got some snow. I had heard we might get some snow, but I was sure it wouldn’t amount to anything. Sure enough, it snowed all morning, but it failed to stick. All morning, the HUGE flakes fell; by afternoon, they had changed into light rain.
On the way, the trains were late and even more crowded than usual. I got off at Nakano, about halfway to my morning class, and the train was so crowded that I couldn’t get back on (That happened on the way home the night before, too, which is a small example of what I was talking about in my last post.)
What else could I do? I took a couple pictures from the station, while I waited. These are from Nakano Station, just a few stops away from Ogikubo, where I live. (I took a few more pictures of the snow in Ichigaya. I will post them tomorrow. For now, I need to get to bed.)
The first snow of the season in Tokyo came with a bang, and left with a whimper.
It was beautiful while it lasted.

It is like a designers dream there. I just can’t get over how clean it seems, but also how streamlined and well designed everything appears to be… very visually appealing cities, and great photos to boot!

Thanks for the compliment!
Yes, it is surprisingly clean and well laid out. Believe it or not, Tokyo is usually ranked one of the best cities to live in. But the trains are too crowded!
