Never Mind! This Site is NOT Moving

I recently wrote that I would be moving this site from its current site to a new address on wordpress.com.

After some serious thought, I have decided not to move my blog.

I have played around with wordpress.com blogs in the past, and they are wonderful. If you are looking for a free, but powerful way to blog, you should really look into it. That’s why I figured it would be just as good. And under different circumstances, it might be. But I ran into two problems that are deal-breakers for me:

  1. I didn’t realize how important some of the plugins and features that I take for granted on this site were, until I didn’t have them;
  2. More importantly, some of my viewers were not able to view my blog, because wordpress.com blogs are blocked by many firewalls. I actually experienced this at my high school. I couldn’t view my blog. Some countries, schools, and businesses block all wordpress.com blogs from that site. But, as far as I know, this site has not been blocked. (It’s is so vanilla and non-controversial, that I doubt anyone would bother blocking it.) ;)

I mentioned saving money and not having to worry about the difficulties of self-hosting. The truth is, as one of my best friends reminded me, this is a very inexpensive hobby. The knowledge and experience of learning how to do this might also serve me well in my career. And I have already learned most of what I need to keep things running smoothly. Actually, now that I have it set up, it mostly takes care of itself. But sometimes, I just want to tweak things, and it can cause problems. But I’ve been doing it so long, that I know what I want to do, and how to make it work. When I went to wordpress.com, I wasn’t able to change any of the CSS style (you do have the option of upgrading to receive this ability, but you cannot do it on a free account).

I am sure some of my loyal readers might think I am off my rocker, and I am even expecting a sarcastic comment or two (I won’t name names, but you know who you are…) :lol: But even if this makes me look foolish, I want to do what I think is right for my readers and for this blog.

So, once again, please visit The Wayfarer Blog here, at http://www.the-wayfarer.net/. I will not be moving to http:thewayfarerblog.wordpress.com at this time.

I apologize for any confusion this may have caused, but it is the right decision to make. Feel free to leave me a comment, or you can send me a private mail by using the Contact Link in the header above.

P.S.: If you are subscribed to either the RSS feed or the email updates for this site, you will not notice any disruption. (That is another benefit of using RSS/Atom feeds to follow sites.)
