The Wayfarer Blog

Well, I made it back to Tokyo, but I need to change my internet provider. The good news is that it will be much faster, and for less money. But the bad news is that it might take about three weeks to get it installed. So I will obviously not be able to post as much as I would like.

Right now, I am at an internet cafe. I will try to post at least a couple times a week, but things will probably continue to be slow for the next couple weeks.

I have tons of Chinese pics to post, as soon as I can. I need to run for now.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I got busy, then had some internet issues before I left, so I didn’t have time to update the blog and let you know I would be in China. Right now, I am in Beijing. (More on that later.)

I have taken a lot of pictures, so check back for that. I’ll be back in Japan in a couple days.

Now, I want to get off the computer. I’ve spent a lot of time on this, and I need a break!

I’m working on fixing some issues with way this site is laid out. Right now, I have “broken” it, and it is already 12:30am, so I need to go to bed. Please pardon the mess. I should have everything nice and spiffy within the next day or so.

I recently updated the website, which broke the sitemap page. If you have checked it recently, you might have noticed it was blank! I just fixed it, so you can once again easily access any page on this site. To access the sitemap, click here or on the “Sitemap” link at the top of every page.

I love the fact that you visit The Wayfarer Blog. There is nothing more rewarding than to reaching out to my readers, wherever you are, and knowing that you are enjoying the pictures and articles I post. But I’d like to call your attention to a couple of convenient subscription options that you might find helpful if you don’t always have time to visit this site.

By subscribing to a blog, you are asking to be updated automatically, whenever a new post is published. You can still visit the site whenever you want, but you won’t have to actually go to the site to see if there is a new post, because you will already know. There are two ways you can do this.

Since my friend Killdeer posted the results of his Super Villain test, I thought I should take it, too. You may recall that I took took a similar test a year ago.
In both cases, I had to check the results on wikipedia, because I don’t really know much about comic books. It turns out that I (oops! I’m not a super villain!), or rather my alter ego, was featured in a recent movie…

A Confession

First, a confession of sorts. When you write a blog like this, it is sometimes difficult to judge how much to reveal, not so much in terms of privacy, but more in terms of whether it is really useful or interesting information for your readers. In my last post, I posted a picture of a rose I took near my home, and I said, “No matter how cold it is, spring is coming.” But originally, I was going to write that when I took that picture, I was on my way to go have a walk, take some pictures, and go relax at a coffeeshop. It was my last day off, so I wanted to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. But about a minute after I took the picture, my ankle starting hurting suddenly. It really worried me, so I gingerly made my way home.

Farewell, 2007…

Another year has come and gone.

Don’t worry. I won’t take you on yet another nostalgic look back at everything that happened this year. But I do think this was a year full of growth and changes for me. It wasn’t always easy, and it certainly wasn’t always fun. But I am very satisfied and grateful to be where I am today.

I spent about four months using crutches. I lost a lot of chances to take pictures and travel, and be active. And I used up my vacation/sick time. But I also got back in touch with my health, and I’ve been able to address some physical issues. (Nothing serious; I am talking more about my fallen arches, and the fact that I needed to strength certain muscles and loosen up others.) The simple act of walking was, at times, difficult, painful and even frightening. I’m not used to feeling weak and helpless, and that was perhaps the hardest part for me.

Although I couldn’t make it home this year, you are all in my heart, and in my mind. It isn’t easy to be apart. That is why I started this blog. And even though I don’t update it enough, and the pictures and words I write might be a clumsy and shallow attempt to keep you informed, I hope you enjoy sharing part of my journey.
